GED Application Checklist

Admission Application

Get started with your Admissions application by completing your Bear App. Budget about 15 minutes to complete it. You can also apply through the Common App. The application requirements are the same no matter which way you apply, so it's up to you how you would prefer to submit your app.

Application Fee

UNC has a $50 application fee (nonrefundable; payable by credit or debit card; fee waivers are available).

GED and Transcripts

Submit official GED scores and official high school transcripts to the point of stop-out (which should be sent directly to UNC from your high school).

Personal Statement

Submit a personal statement describing your interest in UNC and why you feel you are prepared to be academically successful at a four-year university.

Be sure to check with major specific requirements

If you’re applying for a program in the School of Music or School of Theatre Arts and Dance, check here to see what additional application materials may be required.

Admission Criteria

A qualifying score does not guarantee admission to UNC. We will review your application and materials on an individual basis and make a holistic assessment.

1

If you took the GED, we require a personal statement in addition to the core application materials.

2

Students who take the GED Fifth Test Series (2014 to present) must have earned 150 or higher in each subject area to be eligible for admission. The Fourth Test Series (2001–2013) minimum for admission eligibility is 550 total, and the Third Test Series (1988–2001) minimum is 55 total.

Bringing Credits to UNC

AP and IB Credit

Any Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate credits earned may be used toward the 120-credit minimum requirement for college graduation. When you take the AP or IB examination(s), request that your scores be sent to the University of Northern Colorado’s Office of Admissions. UNC will then evaluate your test scores for credit and notify you of the results.

The tables below show the specific courses and credit to be awarded based on score(s) on the various examinations.

UNC is proud to support its military community and accepts military credit, VA educational benefits, and the Yellow Ribbon Program.

A maximum of 30 semester hours of credit may be accepted for college-level courses taken under the auspices of the U.S. military services. Credit may also be awarded to veterans of military service who have successfully completed coursework at U.S. military service schools. A Joint Services Transcript (JST), DD214, or official military service school transcript must be submitted. These documents are evaluated by the Office of the Registrar according to recommendations from the American Council on Education in accordance with UNC guidelines. This credit is counted as non-residency transfer work.
